Privacy Policy
Last updated July 29, 2026
ThinkBudget uses your information to provide a personal budgeting service. We do not sell personal or financial information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Scope
This policy explains how ThinkBudget collects, uses, discloses, retains, and protects information when you use the ThinkBudget app, website, and related services.
Information we collect
- Account information: an identity identifier, email address, and sign-in metadata supplied through our authentication provider.
- Financial information: the institutions and accounts you choose to connect; account names, types, partial account numbers, and balances; and transaction details such as dates, amounts, descriptions, merchants, categories, and status.
- Budget information: budgets, envelope categories, assignments, schedules, transaction titles, and memos you create.
- Device and technical information: push notification tokens, request and error logs, and technical details needed to secure and operate the service.
- Communications: information you include when you contact us for privacy or support assistance.
Plaid handles the credentials used to connect a supported financial institution. ThinkBudget does not receive or store your financial institution password.
How we collect information
We receive information from you, from the app and devices you use, and from providers that you authorize. Financial information is received through Plaid and, for legacy connections, Teller.
How we use information
- Authenticate your account and protect the service.
- Connect and synchronize financial accounts and transactions.
- Calculate balances, organize transactions, and provide budgeting features.
- Send notifications you enable.
- Diagnose errors, prevent abuse, and maintain security.
- Respond to privacy and support requests.
Service providers and disclosures
We disclose information only as needed to provide, secure, and maintain ThinkBudget, at your direction, or when required by law. Providers currently used by ThinkBudget include:
- Plaid and, for legacy connections, Teller, for financial account connectivity;
- Auth0 for account authentication;
- Fly.io for application and database hosting;
- Apple for application distribution and push notifications; and
- OpenAI, when transaction-title generation is enabled, to turn selected transaction fields into a concise title.
Each provider processes information under its own terms and privacy commitments. Plaid's practices are described in its End User Privacy Policy.
We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use financial information for advertising.
Retention and deletion
We retain account, financial, and budgeting information while your account is active and as needed to provide the service. Short-lived connection-session data and operational logs are retained only as long as needed for their purpose. Provider-managed backups expire on a limited rotation schedule.
You may request deletion by emailing [email protected] from the address associated with your account. After verifying the request, we will disconnect linked financial accounts, delete or de-identify information associated with the ThinkBudget account, and allow provider-managed backups to expire. We aim to complete live-system deletion within 30 days unless a shorter period is required by law. Limited information may be retained when required for security, legal compliance, or the establishment or defense of legal claims.
Your choices
You can choose which institutions and accounts to connect and can disconnect them. You may also contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of your information. Available rights and exceptions depend on where you live.
Security
We use administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information, including encrypted network connections, access controls, multi-factor authentication for administrative systems, and restricted production credentials. No system can guarantee absolute security.
Children
ThinkBudget is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our practices or services change. We will update the date above and provide additional notice when appropriate.
